🔦 Highlights
🪄 Spells
One big idea we’ve learned each week, shaped into words you can carry forward.
A lot of people are looking at nothing
Everybody wants more views
A few months ago, I noticed something interesting.
Whenever business owners ask us for help, the conversation almost always starts in the same place.
"We need more views."
"We need more followers."
"We need to go viral."
That's understandable.
When you have a business to run, seeing bigger numbers feels exciting. More people discovering your business sounds like progress.
But I think we've accidentally started looking at social media as though it has only one job.
Getting attention.
That's only half of the story.
Now, imagine
Imagine opening a restaurant.
You spend money on advertisements, put up signs, tell your friends, and invite people through the doors.
People arrive.
Then what?
What happens if the menu isn't there?
What happens if nobody greets them?
What happens if the place looks empty?
You did your job. You brought people in.
Now they leave.
Social media works in much the same way.
“I like to think about it as offence and defence.”
Offence
Offence is everything that reaches outward.
Paid advertisements. Trends. Entertaining videos. Stories. Relatable moments. Behind-the-scenes content. Comments. Messages.
Anything that helps people discover you.
This is where people start saying things like:
"I like these people."
"I'll follow them."
"I'll check out their page."
This kind of content is incredibly important because businesses are built by people, and people prefer doing business with other people.
But attention and trust are not the same thing.
Defence
Defence begins when people arrive.
This is the moment they ask questions.
What does this business do?
Can they solve my problem?
Can I trust them?
Why should I choose them?
This is where educational content becomes powerful.
You explain. You teach. You answer questions. You remove uncertainty. You show your work.
Eventually, the conversation changes.
"That's interesting."
"That's useful."
"I have that problem."
"These are the people I should speak to."
"Take my money."
Defence is preparation.
It's building an account that is ready when attention finally arrives.
Carbon copy that
This applies to almost every industry.
A café. A restaurant. A law firm. A gym. An agency.
The details change, but the principle remains the same.
If you have more defence than offence, nobody notices you.
If you have more offence than defence, people arrive and find nothing.
One side invites people in.
The other gives them a reason to stay.
You need both.
Things that you can check now
If somebody found your account today, what would they think or see?
If the checked out your 6 latest content, would they understand what you offer?
Looking left and right, would they trust you over others?
Would they stay or would they leave?

Muay Thai Trial
Elroy put us onto something new — introducing us to Jon, a Muay Thai coach he used to train with, and setting up a private class at his newly opened gym (still in the soft launch stage), Artyzen Fight Club (conveniently very close to our office).
We got a crash course in the basics, from fighter stance to simple punches and kicks — enough to humble us, but also get us hooked. Safe to say, we might be back.

The Day Elroy Couldn’t Escape
This week’s feast was specially curated by… Elroy Ramantan. Yes, that Elroy — who has successfully avoided food duty for quite some time.
Despite having to wake up earlier than usual (and in a very questionable mood), he delivered a spread that made all of us very happy — almost like he wasn’t forced into it at all.
Thanks, Elroy, for finally stepping up. We hope this isn’t a one-time thing 👀

Thank you Elroy!
BFI International Women’s Day
Raf and the media team attended BFI's International Women's Day 2026 at Rizqun Hotel, an inspiring event dedicated to connecting communities and empowering women. The programme featured six engaging sessions, each exploring different perspectives and conversations surrounding women's experiences, leadership, and empowerment. It was a day filled with meaningful discussions, valuable insights, and inspiring stories. Huge kudos to the BFI team for putting together such a thoughtfully curated and impactful event.

Media Team Weekly Recap
It's been a full-on week for the media team, with cameras rolling from one project to the next. The media girls took over with Raf and Selene leading a content shoot for Dear Beauty by Viv, followed by a production day with Serikandi on Tuesday. The team also spent two exciting days on set filming BFI's upcoming short film, with more to come. Wrapping up the week, Selene and Al-fath headed out for a shoot with First Emporium on Friday. Safe to say, it's been a busy week packed with creativity, collaboration, and plenty of behind-the-scenes moments.
