This week, we're adding more pages to our Spellbook. Here's what we'll be talking about:

One big idea we’ve learned each week, shaped into words you can carry forward.

Recently, an important opportunity came our way.

The deadline was tight, and we needed to put together a creative proposal.

This is usually the fun part.

Everyone had ideas.

And when you put a bunch of creatives in a room with enough freedom, the ideas don't really wait for a scheduled brainstorming session.

They started during lunch.

Then during breaks.

Someone was on the floor.

Someone had a notebook open.

There were pieces of paper everywhere, ideas being thrown across the room, people building on what someone else had just said.

Even after working hours, messages were still coming in.

"What if we did this?"

"Wait, I have another idea."

It was one of those moments where you could feel everyone genuinely wanted this.

We had the ideas.

We had the people.

We had the energy.

Then came the weekend.

The ideas were everywhere by then.

Some were in messages.

Some were on paper.

Some were probably still sitting in someone's head.

And somewhere between all that excitement, we made one very small mistake.

We assumed someone was putting everything together.

No one asked:

"Who's doing the document?"

Five minutes.

That's probably all that conversation would've taken.

Someone takes ownership. Everyone sends their parts. We finish while the ideas are still fresh, check everything, and move on with our weekend.

Instead, everyone went home thinking someone else had it covered.

Then came the message.

Two hours before our working day normally begins.

"Is the document done?"

...

How did we miss that?

Messages started coming in.

People were checking what had been completed.

Others were figuring out what was still missing.

Suddenly, the same group that had spent days casually sharing ideas was trying to pull everything together before an important deadline.

All hands on deck. Some of us rushed to the office an hour early. Ideas had to be collected. The proposal had to be built.

Everything needed to make sense.

And, somehow, we got it done.

Felt like a final year project in Uni.

We nailed it too.

But we definitely didn't need the 7AM panic. 😂

I think there's something very creative-agency about what happened.

Give us a problem with creative freedom and we'll jump in.

We'll talk about ideas over lunch. We'll send references after work. We'll scribble something on paper because we suddenly thought of another direction.

We love that part.

But every exciting idea eventually needs to become something.

A document. A deck. A timeline. A checklist.

A person responsible for putting it together.

Those parts aren't always exciting, but they're the things that carry an idea from the floor of a brainstorming session into the hands of a client.

We need both.

That experience left us with a ridiculously simple lesson.

Delegate before everyone jumps in.

Because sometimes having a room full of capable people creates its own problem.

Everyone knows they could do it.

Everyone trusts that someone will do it.

And somehow...

Nobody does.

Now we're learning to ask the boring questions while the excitement is still high.

Who's taking this?

Who's putting everything together?

When are we checking it?

What happens next?

Five minutes.

That's probably all we needed.

Instead, we learned it over five days.

Is there something your team is currently excited about?

Great.

Now, who owns it?

Who takes everything that's floating around in conversations, messages and people's heads and turns it into something real?

Does everyone actually know?

Or are you all quietly assuming someone else does?

Sometimes a deadline doesn't get scary because there wasn't enough time.

Sometimes nobody asked the five-minute question early enough.

Anyway...

We submitted the proposal.

We love it.

Now wish us luck. ✌️

We remember when Raf first told us she had been accepted into her Master’s programme. Excited but understandably nervous, she was stepping into a new field while continuing her career with AICREATIVV. A year later, she has officially graduated with a Master’s in Management from Universiti Brunei Darussalam!

Between classes, assignments, productions and her responsibilities as our Media Production Coordinator, it was no small feat. We’re incredibly proud to have witnessed her journey from the uncertainty at the beginning to finally seeing her walk across the stage. Naturally, we had to brave the heat and celebrate her in true AICREATIVV fashion: loudly and a little chaotically. Congratulations, Master Raf Zaini! Here’s to bigger milestones and whatever comes next.

In honour of Faiqah Adawiyah officially joining the team as a full timer, Fai and Hisham were put in charge of this week's food run. Judging by how enthusiastically she returned to the office, we have a feeling Fai genuinely enjoyed the responsibility.

The spread became an unexpected potluck when DB joined in with a tray of mee kari prepared by his mom in celebration of his dad's birthday. Add in a few extra treats and Friday turned into an afternoon filled with good food and even better company.

If you've been keeping up with our recent Spellbook entries, you'll probably remember the unexpected visitor that crashed into our backyard a few weeks ago. Thankfully, everyone was safe, but the fallen tree did leave behind a damaged roof and a backyard that looked very different from what we were used to.

The good news? Everything is finally back in order. A huge thank you to our landlord, Adnan, and the contractor uncles for helping us clear the fallen tree and repair the damage. The backyard is looking much better and we're very happy to have our space back again.

Things we’re loving lately, because inspiration hides where you least expect them.

A new café has popped up in Beribi and has already been making waves on social media, so naturally, we had to check it out for ourselves! Hop Hop Café has a super cute and cosy space that makes for a great hangout spot and it’s pretty photo-friendly too. They also provide Wi-Fi for anyone looking to get some work done while enjoying a cuppa. With more tenants expected to move into the space soon, we’re excited to see what else pops up around the area. Definitely one to keep an eye on!

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, drop by Market Seni: Rimba Edition at Rimba Point! Running alongside the Mini Illustration Lane, the event will bring together local illustrators, artists, designers, makers and creative entrepreneurs, with plenty of original artwork and independent brands to browse. There will also be multiple workshops happening throughout the event, so there’s plenty to explore beyond just shopping.

Whether you’re looking for some retail therapy, want to support local creatives, or simply need a little creative reset, this might be the place to be!
