This week, we're adding more pages to our Spellbook. Here's what we'll be talking about:

One big idea we’ve learned each week, shaped into words you can carry forward.

I found myself, on multiple occasions, trying to remember who came up with one of our ideas.

I genuinely couldn't.

I went through the conversation in my head. I remembered where we were sitting, roughly what everyone was talking about, and even some of the stupid ideas that came before the good one.

But who actually started it?

No idea. I asked around too. Nobody else seemed to know.

Which is quite funny considering how much we liked the idea in the end.

Anyway, this is part two of Nobody.

And this one is about what happens when an idea spends enough time in a room full of people.

Most ideas do. Someone says something first.

Maybe it's brilliant. Usually, it isn't yet.

It might just be half a sentence. A rough sketch. A reference someone saved on TikTok.

Something ridiculous enough to make everyone laugh before someone else pauses and goes,

"Actually..."

Then the idea starts moving. One person gives it a better shape. Someone finds the problem with it. Another person fixes that problem and accidentally creates a new one.

Someone simplifies it. Someone pushes it too far. Someone pulls it back.

Twenty minutes later, the original idea is barely recognisable.

And somehow, it's better.

That’s how it usually works out.

This actually happens quite often at AICREATIVV. We'll eventually arrive at something we're excited about and somebody asks,

"Who thought of this again?"

Silence.

"I think it was you?"

"No, I only added that part."

"Wasn't it from what she said earlier?"

"I thought he started it."

Nobody knows. And I love that.

Because somewhere along the way, everyone stopped keeping score.

The idea became more important than who introduced it.

I used to think collaboration meant putting good people in the same room and letting everyone contribute.

I'm starting to think there's another layer to it.

It's how comfortable we are letting someone else touch what we contributed.

You suggest something. Then another person changes it.

Maybe they remove your favourite part. Maybe someone takes your thought somewhere you never intended it to go.

Sometimes the final version contains only a tiny piece of what you originally imagined.

That can be uncomfortable. Especially when you really liked your version.

But I've noticed that some of our most memorable work has come from exactly that process.

Nobody held onto the idea too tightly.

We let it travel.

And every person it passed through left something behind.

There's a very different feeling in a room when people are protecting their ideas.

You can feel it. People explain why their version should stay.

Feedback becomes personal.

Suggestions start sounding like challenges.

Eventually, everyone becomes careful.

The room gets polite.

And polite brainstorms are rarely very interesting.

Then there are sessions where someone happily says,

"Mine doesn't work anymore. Let's use yours."

Someone else goes,

"Take this part though."

And the conversation keeps moving.

Nobody lost.

The work got better.

Last week, I wrote about the little signs of individual growth that nobody claps for.

I think teams have their own version of that.

At the beginning, everyone brings their own ideas to the table. Over time, you learn each other's instincts.

You know who will spot the practical problem. Who will push the idea further. Who will ask the annoying question that eventually saves it. Who will simplify everything after the rest of us made it too complicated.

Eventually, you start thinking with each other.

That's strange when you notice it.

A person says half a sentence and someone else already knows where they're going.

Someone sketches something badly and the rest can somehow see it too.

The boundaries between "my idea" and "your idea" start getting blurry.

Maybe that's what happens when people have built things together for long enough.

And maybe that's okay.

There are ideas sitting inside our portfolio today where I genuinely couldn't tell you who came up with them.

I could probably tell you who designed it. Who directed it. Who edited it. Who presented it.

But the idea itself?

It belongs to a conversation.

To a room. To eight or twelve or seventeen people interrupting each other. To random lunch we forgot to transfer to the person who paid. To someone's random reference. To one person saying something that made another person think of something better.

By the end, nobody remembers who suggested it.

We just remember that we made it together.

Think about one of the best ideas your team has made.

Do you remember who started it?

How many people changed it before it became what you remember today?

And when someone makes your idea better, how quickly can you stop calling it yours?

Because the best sign of collaboration is when an idea has so many fingerprints on it that nobody can point to one person anymore.

It just belongs to the room, or better yet, the team.

This week, we celebrated not one but two birthdays! Our newest addition to the team, Sapek, celebrated his birthday alongside our Senior Creative Designer, Stephanie, who (at the time of writing) is currently enjoying her holiday in Korea.

Happy birthday to both of you! We hope your week was filled with good food, good vibes and plenty of reasons to celebrate.

The haze has been pretty bad lately, especially around Brunei Muara. With students being sent home from school and home based learning making a comeback, our team was also given the option to work remotely, especially for those who are a little more sensitive to the haze.

For those who chose to stay in the office, though, the quieter week somehow brought about some unlikely friendships and unexpected bonding moments. Funny how a little haze can shake up the usual office routine.

Wherever everyone is working from, we hope you’re staying safe, hydrated and taking care of yourselves!

Maybe this is also a good excuse to check in on your office buddy…?

Sapek has a really interesting way of sitting… so interesting that we recently discovered he’d been doing his work on a broken chair. The way he was leaning, it was giving Leaning Tower of Pisa.

So, in conjunction with his birthday and, more importantly, for the sake of his spinal health, the business team headed out to Grand and surprised him with a brand new office chair!

Comfortable enough to work in, sturdy enough to lean in. Hope you enjoy your new throne, Sapek!

Our Agency Accounts Manager, Ampuan Hafiz, has been living a bit of a double life these past few weeks. His 5–9 after his 9–5 has involved rushing from the office straight to the studio for rehearsals.

But this time, his after work profession isn’t finance… he’s a lawyer!

Hafiz is currently preparing for the upcoming Legally Blonde musical by Relentless Entertainment, so while he’s keeping our accounts in check during the day, he’s busy learning lines, choreography and getting into character after hours. Talk about a career change.
