This week, we're adding more pages to our Spellbook. Here's what we'll be talking about:

🔦 Highlights

🪄 Spells

One big idea we’ve learned each week, shaped into words you can carry forward.

Never touched a camera. Then Korea.

On Monday we sat through two intern interview sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. By now I know how the start of these goes. The certificates get handed over, we say thank you, and we move straight to talking. Sometimes that comes as a shock to them.

What we look at instead

We have been taking interns from different institutes for two years now, and from the beginning we did not want to bombard them with work. I would like their first taste of working life to feel close to the real thing, the kind they will meet one day when school is behind them. Technical skills do need polishing, but I have come to see that they are not the only thing that needs growing. There is also resilience, thinking on your feet, keeping your focus, getting along with a team, and learning to separate the professional from the personal without turning into a robot.

So in the interview, we talk. We value character more than credentials, and a few people along the way taught us why. I do not think we have this figured out, and I am still learning who to say yes to.

Never touched a camera

One person we accepted had never touched a camera. We brought them into the media team and let them shadow the roles first, then gave them a small role, then a bigger one. Later they were picked for the FLY incubation programme and flew to Korea to represent Brunei. None of that was on a certificate, because there was no certificate for it yet.

Another came in so timid that they cried during the interview. We took them in anyway, and over the six months we helped them get comfortable talking to people. A few weeks after the internship ended, they were standing in front of around 100 juniors, sharing their story. That is the kind of growth we hope to see.

Come in scared

We are not here to throw our pile of work at anyone. We want to help, because everyone in AICREATIVV has been the scared one at some point, in one way or another. I cannot think of much that is more rewarding than watching someone who trusted us with their internship grow under our care.

It is something we rarely share, so I wanted to write it down here for once. If you would rather hear it from an intern, Selene started out quiet and observant and wrote about her own shift: From the Sidelines to the Shoot.

Come in scared. Leave a completely different person, ready to steer through life.

Questions worth thinking about

  • When did someone last take a chance on you before you had anything to show for it?

  • What would we miss about a person if we only read the folder they handed over?

  • Who around you is quietly becoming someone different, and have you told them?

October: Out Of Office!

This month, the AICREATIVV team will be taking turns being OOO. This week DB, Elroy, Amal, Imamull and Aaqilull are enjoying their well deserved holidays. We hope you guys stay safe, we’ll see you soon! Find out who’ll be on leave next!

Someone’s Gotta Hold It Down in Lugu

The AICREATIVV badminton tour continues, and this time, we’ve landed at Tangkis BN in Lugu! With weekly games taking us to different courts around Brunei, the team is keeping the shuttlecocks flying and the competition alive.

We may not be in LA, but we’re definitely showing up in Lugu. Someone’s gotta hold it down on the court, after all.

The Return of Thai Thursday Tooning

Thai Thursday Tooning is back! Every Thursday, the team stays back for movie night, hosted by our very own Elroy, and this week’s pick was the 2010 Thai rom-com A Little Thing Called Love.

A classic cinta monyet story, the film follows a schoolgirl with a crush on her senior as she navigates young love, friendship and a major glow up. Cue the butterflies, the awkward moments and the very relatable experience of having a crush on someone who probably doesn’t even know you exist.

Looks like Thursday nights are officially reserved for movies, nostalgia and a little bit of romance

Familiar Faces

This week was full of familiar faces! We bumped into Muna and Liza, our very first batch of IBTE interns from 2024, at Politeknik Brunei’s Pesta Konvo. We also caught up with Zai, our former KIGS intern from 2024 who once joined us for our Thai movie nights and has now started a new chapter in her career. Congratulations, Zai!

And last but not least, we ran into Yasmin from our most recent batch of interns, who’ll be graduating later this month! Another milestone worth celebrating, so congratulations in advance, Yasmin!

It was so lovely catching up with everyone and seeing how far they’ve come since their time with us. From interns we once worked alongside to seeing them step into new chapters of their lives, we couldn’t be happier to see everyone growing and reaching new heights. Here’s to many more milestones ahead!

✨ Recommendations

Things we’re loving lately, because inspiration hides where you least expect them.

Cravoury Café

New café alert! Cravoury is one of the newer spots to open up, and while some of us have yet to try their hot meals, we did get a taste of their drinks at their recent pop-up at PB’s Pesta Konvo!

Our picks? The Mont Blanc, Sea Salt Matcha and their mocktail creation, Bute Park. Looks like we’ll have to make a trip down for those hot meals next

Beutea Bites - Pretzel Croutons

Beutea may be known for its teas, but there’s a new snack in the mix! We were gifted a mini goodie bag of their new Beutea Bites — pretzel croutons that come in three flavours: Cream Cheese, Caramel Sea Salt and Buttery Garlic. The latter is our favourite, in case you were wondering.

Crunchy little bites to go with your tea? sounds like a pretty good pairing to us!
