This week, we're adding more pages to our Spellbook. Here's what we'll be talking about:
🔦 Highlights
📌 Empathic Listening
We’ve spent most of our lives learning to read and write, but how much of that time was spent learning to listen?

Listening plays an important part in communication.
According to Stephen Covey’s book; 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, there are 5 levels of listening:
Ignoring: completely not listening.
Pretending: acting like you’re listening by saying “Yeah, uh-huh”
Selective Listening: hearing only certain parts of the conversation.
Attentive Listening: putting energy and attention on the words being said.
Empathic Listening: listening with intent to understand.
Emphatic Listening can be applied to so many things! For us creatives, this should be used especially when dealing with clients.
Most of the time, creatives or even clients try to “imprint” their own style into designs; which could lead them to stray off from what the brand represents.
The brand or deliverables should be designed to cater to the target audience. It’s not about the client or the designer but the target audience; the group of people the brand plans to reach.
As designers, we need to listen intently and only after that, extract what the goal actually is.
Be brave to (respectfully) contest with the client, to ensure that both of you align to the goal — to aim for the target audience.
